Assured's Comfort Therapy Program - Assured Hospice of Clallam County
Over the past 30 years, the use of comfort and alternative medicine (CAM)
has risen in the United States. Assured Hospice of Clallam County offers patients a
variety of comfort therapies, which have the ability to increase comfort,
decrease pain, promote relaxation and increase quality of life for our
patients and families. Qualified professionals within their field of
practice perform all of our therapies. Comfort therapists understand
the value of traditional western medical treatments and choose work in
partnership with them. It is Assured's goal to provide the best
possible care to all of our clients and provide them with every option
available to increase their quality of life, whether traditional or natural.
Some of the therapies you may choose to utilize include:
Healing
Hands Therapies
Reiki and Healing are offered by Assured Hospice of Clallam County. Both work on the subtle
energies of the body, thereby promoting increased relaxation, decreased
pain, improved sleep, decreased length of hospital stays and an increased
sense of spiritual well being. Patient responses to Healing Hands and
Reiki have been validated both scientifically and clinically in leading
hospitals across the United States. During a healing hands session
practitioners gently place their hands on or above various points of the
body, promoting a realignment of the body's energy so that the person feels
increased calm, peace, and well-being. It is non-invasive with the
client remaining fully clothed and the privacy of the body being respected.
Guided
Imagery
Guided Imagery - Imagery utilizes the power of the mind to change the body.
The body responds to the images your mind creates. In guided imagery
the therapist guides you through scenarios that will promote relaxation,
improve sleep, decrease pain, and decrease depression.
Self-Hypnosis
Self-Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958 and
in 1996. The National Institute of Health judged hypnosis to be an
effective intervention for alleviating pain. It is a relaxed focusing
of attention that results in profound changes in the body and release from
pain. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and the client remains fully aware
and in complete control at all times. Research has shown hypnotherapy
to create anesthesia, decrease pain, decrease stress, increase immune
function, improve memory and performance, improve blood pressure and heart
function, and facilitate reaching any goal you may choose.
Life
Review
An additional choice Assured Hospice of Clallam County is proud to offer is Life Review. During
these sessions the patient will be able to talk with a trained listener who
will record and compile transcripts of most valued memories.
Music
and Sound Therapy
Music played on instruments, bells or chimes and drums has the ability to
positively affect the brain and can be soothing for both patient and
caregiver. It can reduce anxiety, enhance alertness, promote sleep
and decrease pain. Our program includes both live music played at the
patient's bedside or recorded music to be listened to over and over.
Each music session is designed to be unique and personal for each patient.

About Hospice
of Clallam County and Palliative Care.
Assured Hospice of Clallam County and Palliative Care is a pioneer and leader in the hospice
movement since the mid-eighties and is one of the leading providers of
end-of-life care in southwest Washington. Headquartered in Centralia,
Washington, Assured operates in Clallam, Jefferson, Lewis, Mason and
Thurston Counties with offices in Sequim, Forks, Port Townsend, Olympia,
Morton and Centralia.
Assured has evolved from its founding as a community-based organization to
an organization that employs over a hundred professionals who care for
terminally ill patients daily, primarily in patients' homes, but also in
hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living communities/residential care
facilities for the elderly. If at some point a patient needs more constant
care, Assured can provide shifts of hospice staff for a brief period to help
the patient through this demanding time at home, rather then transferring
the patient to a hospital. If a patient needs care beyond what can be
provided at home, Assured has special arrangements with local hospitals and
other facilities where patients may receive necessary and appropriate care
and return home as soon as possible.
