A Message from the VHOCC Board President

Dear Volunteers, Nurses and VHOCC Supporters,

The reorganization of our management structure has created new positions, Patient Care Manager (PCM), Volunteer Service Manager and Office Operations Manager. Bette Wood, RN has been hired to fill the PCM position. She brings over 35 years of nursing experience, ranging from critical and coronary care to home health and 8 years with VHOCC.

Two new board members were elected at the April Board meeting. Ed Hopfner, MD has served this community for over 50 years in capacities ranging from a family practitioner to founding the area’s first free clinic to a Board member and Medical Director for Volunteers in Medicine (VIMO). Joe Cress, Ph.D., Psychologist, retired to the Sequim area in 2011. He has an extensive background ranging from the Head Start programs to an Adjunct Professor of Psychology to a private practice in Davenport, Iowa. He has written numerous papers and publications on psychology.

On another note, my term as the President of the Board of Directors, which began January 1, 2012, will end on June 30, 2012. When I agreed to serve as President, it was with the understanding that I would serve only through June 2012. I will continue to serve on the Board until there is a new Board member to fill the tenth position. Thereafter, I hope to serve at the pleasure of the Board in the areas of donation solicitation letters, planned giving and speaking to community organizations. It was and still is my intention to help VHOCC stay focused on 3 key areas: patient care, volunteers and finances.

With my stage of maturation and having remarried in June 2011, I want to be able to enjoy my life with my new bride without the push and pull of the day to day Hospice operation.

Thanks to all of you for your support and for what you do for Team Hospice.

Bruce Busch
